Album: Hurdles Project The Hurdles Project asks each student to visualize their personal life goals and the obstacles or hurdles that stand in the way of reaching them. The goal was for each student to design a two-sided piece which illustrates the hurdle to get over, on side one, and the goal being sought, on side two. This project was an empowering illustration that helped each student develop awareness of personal obstacles while speaking about there future goals. Student work from McCune School for Boys. Album: Character Design & Puppet Making The purpose of this project was to give students the opportunity to explore the issues of personal character development through the process of constructing a three-dimensional character or puppet. The puppet became an object lesson for students to learn about their own character. Students were encouraged to think about the puppet, beyond the physical realm, as a character whose personality has been sculpted by its imaginary life experience. The students were guided in this process by a Puppet Profile Worksheet; asking questions such as: What type of relationship does your puppet have with his/or her mom and dad? What are your puppet’s hobbies, favorite subjects, career goals and fears? How would your puppet respond to peer-pressure? How does your puppet’s character or personality mirror your life? These questions allowed students to begin to make a correlation between their own life experience and their consequent character development. Last change: 09/25/2007
