“Each One Teach One”
My educational philosophy is rooted in meeting the unique needs of the diverse human beings that I serve. My professional profile summary is as follows:
-
Mindfulness educator and adaptive strategist with vast skill-sets for working with “atypical” students in a variety of unique learning environments.
-
Over a decade of experience designing individualized learning opportunities through the arts.
-
Seven years of interdisciplinary collaboration with new and veteran teachers to design dynamic experiential learning.
All of my educational programs are designed with the following best practices:
-
Enduring Ideas- These are the questions that have been on the minds of humans through the ages.
-
Rationale- Why is this relevant to the target population?
-
Big Ideas- The vision for the program… broken down into key ideas.
-
Universal Design for Learning Checklist- Fosters fully inclusive learning environments and experiences through thoughtful strategic planning to develop adaptations.
-
Differentiated Instruction- Design to reach and invigorate multiple intelligences.
-
Integrated Assessments- The creative process naturally produces evidence of learning. All process work documented and anecdotal accounts are captured and maintained in digital student portfolios.
-
Culminating Events- A key element to dynamic life changing learning experiences is the opportunity to show what you have learned and created to your community, family and friend. We all need to be witnessed and supported within the community context.
-
Pre-Service Needs Assessment- All programs are designed to be adapted and tailored to fit the target population. The needs assessment provides me with the detailed information about the nature of the people and the partnering institution, so that I can develop a workable plan to meet those unique needs.
-
Post-Service Follow-Up- After the program is over there is still a lot of learning to take place… After reviewing all of the assessment tools, portfolios, culminating event and any additional feedback; I can consider what worked, what didn’t and do some retrospective adaptation development. Then I can advise for future follow-up programming.
